Dasakam 6  Vyasa  -Narada  Samagama(Meeting  of Vyasa and Narada)

(From this Dasakam  , the story of sage Sukha  is told  (Book I chapter IV)  . In this chapter an introduction to sage Vyasa   is given and it is described as   to how he wanted a child badly.Sage Narada   advices him to to  Thapas   addressed   to Parasakthi ..Accordingly   he climbs   the Mery mountain to do the  Thapas.)

1.THwad ichaya   Devi Pulasthya vaachaa,
Parasarraadha Vishnu purana  Karthu,
Muner  Harir Loka hithaaa Dheepadh,
Yadhaa Pradhi pojaani  Krishna nama.

1.Oh Goddess As per your desire  and advice of  sage Pulasthya,
Sage Parasara    compiled   an epic called Vishnu  Purana
And got  a son  named  Krishna  who was a lamp  lit
From the lamp of Vishnu, for the benefit  of the world

2.Vedam Chathurthaavidadhath   sa Krishna-,
Dwaipayanou  Vyasa   ithi prasidha,
Vedantha   soothraani  Puraana jaalam,
Mahethihasa  chamahamscha kara.

2.That Krishna Dwaipayana was  well known as sage Vyasa,
Because   he  compiled , systematized  and divided Vedas in to four,
He also composed   Vedantha   suthras  , Puranas,
And also wrote   great  and well known epics.

3.Thapa  pravrutha kalavingapotham,
Maathraa  sa  sam laalithamasramanthe  ,
Pasyannadhanyaa   mana pathyathaam   swam,
Saputhra bhagyathisayam   cha dadhou.

3.He who was engaged  in Thapas  in his hermitage ,
Say  little sparrows   being fed by their mother  sparrow,
And was thinking   about  unsatisfied state   of childlessness,
And the luck state of others who had   sons.

4.SAthputhralaabhaaya   thapaschikeersha,
Sthreethwam   maha meru   sameepamethyaa,
Aaraadhaneeya ka  ithi  kshanam  sa,
Chinthathuro loka  guru  sthitho abhooth.

4.He who was a teacher  of the world  got ready,
To do great Thapas     for the sake  of getting a son,
And reached  by the side of Maha meru mountain,
And for a minute stood benumbed  ,
Thinking   as to which God  should be worshipped.

5.Sri Narada  sthathra  samagathasthwath ,
Krupaa kadakshang kurvan Maharashi,
Arghyadhi sampoojitha aasanastho,
Vyaasena   prushta prahannivaaha.

5.Due to merciful glance    at that time  ,
The sage called  Narada  arrived there.
And he was offered   water , worshipped and given a seat,
And with a smile he started  giving answer to questions of Vyasa.

6.Kim chinthayaa Krishna bhajaswa devim,
Krupaavathi vaanchitha  dhana dakshaa,
Ahethuresha khalu  sarvahethur,
Nirastha samyaathisayaa  nireehaa,

6>why this thought Krishna  , worship the Goddess ,
Who is merciful ,  is great in fulfilling   your desires
And is the  cause  of everything.She does not have desires,
Has none who is equivalent to her and does not have any cause.

7.SAishaa  maha sakthirithi   prasidhaa,
Yadaajnayaa  Brahma Ramesa  Rudraa,
Brahmanda  sargaa sthithi samhruthischa,
Kurvanthi   kale   na cha   they swathanthraa.

7.She who is like that is famous in the name of Mahasakthi,
And  it is due to her   orders that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
Are creating  , looking after  and destroying the universe,
And because of it   they are  not independent.

8.Yasyaascha   they sakthibireva sarva-,
Karmaani   kurvanthi  sura suraadhyaa,
Marthyaa mrugaa  Krishna pathathrinascha,
Shakther  vidheyaa  ka ihaa vidheya.

8.They also  are performing all acts due to the power,
Of That Sakthi and Oh Krishna,  devas, asuras  and others,
Humans   animals   and birds follow her desire,
.Who is there  who do not  obey  her completely.

9.Prathyaksha mukhyair  na cha saapramaanair,
Jneyaa  thapobhi  kadinair vruthaischa,
Na Veda sastra adhyayanena chaapi,
BHakthyaiva jaanaathi  pumaan mahesim.

9. .She cannot be known  by  well evident   rules,
Very   hard thapas, by penances and it cannot be said,
That by learning Vedas   and Sastras  you can know about her,
And human beings   come to know about her  only through devotion.

10.Thaameva bhakthyaa  sathatham bhajaswa,
Sarvaarthadhaam  Krishna  Thavasthu bhadram,
Ithyoochushi Brahma suthe gathe   sa,
Vyasthapordha  giri meru roha.

10.Oh Krishna you yourself   sing about her with devotion,
For she is the one    who gives everything. You please  be safe,
After telling   this when sage Narada   departed,
That Vyasa started  climbing Meru mountain to do thapas.

11.Ihasmi parayaakula   chitha  vruthir,
Gurum na pasyaami  mahathamam cha,
SAnmaargatho maam  naya  Viswamatha.
Praseedha may  thwaam saranam vrujaami.

11.Now here  with mind engaged   in various thoughts,
I am not able to see either  guru   or  great souls,
Oh mother of the universe  make me walk in the right path,

Be pleased with me and I am surrendering to you.
