Dasakam 37-  Vishnu  Mahathmyam –The greatness  of Lord Vishnu

(this chapter deals with the special position of Lord Vishnu   and the  incarnations    that   he took. This is available in 13th chapter  of the third book of Devi Bhagawatham.)

1.Puraa  haristhwaam kila   sathvikena,
Prasadayamasa makena   devi,
Sureshu tham,   sreshta thamam   chararThdha,
Sa  thena   sarvathra  babhoova  poojya.

1.Oh Goddess , once  upon a time did not Lord Hari,
Please you by the conduct of a Yajna conducted in SAthva way,
And then you made him the greatest among Devas,
And because of that  he was worshipped by    all.

2,Adharma  vrudhischa yadhaa   triloke,
Dharmakshayaschaapi  thadaa bhavathyaam
Dharma samudharthamadharmamruddham,
Maarshtu   cha  devyeshu  niyujjyathe.

2.Oh Goddess  When injustice and evil increases in the world,
And  Dharma   gets  reduced , Then  for  reinstating ,
Dharma and removing   the evil and injustice from the world,
He would  be deputed   by you  ,

3,SA eedyathe  sarvatha yeva sarvai-,
Pathnyaa  cha bhoothaischa samam  gireesa,
ILavruthe   apoorusha   sannidhaane,
Sangarshanaakhyam   bhajathe  murarim.

3.He is being praised   by every one  in all places,
And even Lord Shiva   along with his wife and Bhoothas,
Worship i in Ilavrutha   continent   where men are not there,
The killer of Mura who is called  Sankarshana

4,Thameva  bhadrasravaso   hayaasyaam,
Badraaswa varshe munaya  sthuvanthi,
Prahlaadhas ucchait  hari varsha  vaasi,
Viswarthi santhyai  nruharim cha  nauthi.

4.In the  continent of Bhadraswa,  which is east of Ilavrutha,
The sages called   bhadrasravaa are   only praying ,
Him in his horse   headed form of  Hayagreeva.
In the continent of Harivarsha, South of Ilavrutha,
Prahladha     is worshipping  him in the ,
Form of man-lion for the betterment of the worlds.

5,Sri kethumaale   khalu kama  roo[am,
THam  smayake  mathasthya thanum  manuscha ,
Hiranmaye   korma sareera bhaajaam,
Sthuvanthi   Narayanamaryamaa   cha.

5.That Narayana  seen as cupid in kethumala
Is worshipped  by Goddess  Lakshmi  ,
In the form fish by Manu  in Ramyaka,
And in the form of tortoise  by Aryama in Hiranmaya,

6.Maha varaaham   kuru soothareshu,
Bhoo Raghavam  kimpurushe Hanuman,
Tham Naaradho bharatha  varsha  varthi,
Naram  cha Narayanamaasrayanthe  .

6.That  Vishnu   is worshipped   as Narayana,
By the sage   Narada   and men in the   Bharatha varsha,
As Sri Rama by Lord Hanuman  in Kimpurusha
And as  Mahavaraha  by  goddess  earth in Utharakuru.

7Sathkarma  bhoomir  bharathasya   rajyam,
Santhyathra vaikunta kadhogha   sakthaa,
Theerthaani  punyasraya parvathaascha,
Jamaathraa  devaa   spruhayanthyajasram.

7,Bharatha   the country of Bharatha is land of good acts,
And  people are there who are interested  only in Stories of Vaikunta,
And here  there are scared wayers, hermitages and mountains,
And devas   always  long    to be born there .

8.Prahaladha pouthra suthaaladhivasaa,
Surakshithaschaa   aathma nivedhanena,
Vaardhakya rogakLabheethi muktho,
Mahabalir  vaamanameva nauthi.

8.Mahabali  who is well protected by  his self offering.
And who does not have old age, fear  and  fading  away,
And  Who lives in suthala   and who is the,
Grandson of Prahladha , always  prays Vamana

9.Sahara seersha  sirasaa  dadgath kshmaam,
Hali  haresthama samoorthiraaryai,
Samsthooyamaana saha  naga  kanyaa,
Pathala  mole  cha  saleelamaasthe

9.SAnkarshana who is the baser form of Vishnu  ,
Who has  thousand  heads   and who lifts  the earth,
By one of his heads, who is prayed to by good people,
Lives at the  end of patala with his   sports

10.Vichithra roopam  jagathaam hithaaya ,
Sarve sthuvanthyachyutha midha bhakthyaa,
Yevam kuru   thwam  varadhana daksham,
Maatha krupaadra varadhe   namasthe.

10.All people    with great devotion , for the  sake,
Of the good of the world pray Vishnu    who has several forms,
And you make   him  capable of granting   boons,

And Oh Goddess   who grants boons, My salutations to you.
