Dasakam 14   Sudarsana Kadha( BHaradwajasrama  Pravesam) – Story of Sudarsana( entering in to hermitage  of Bharadwaja)

(There was  king called Druvasanthi who had two wives  called manorama and Leelavathi, Manorama gave birth to a son called   Sudarshana and Leelavathi a boy called Sathrujith. After  sudden death of  DRuvasanthi  , though Sudarsana was the elder prince , the father of Leelavathi fought with father  of Manorama and killed him.  Manorama and Sudarsana took refuge in the   hermitage of BHaradwaja..But Sathrujith   followed them to the hermitage   and wanted to kill Sudarsana and his mother but the sage did not allow him to  posses him. This story occurs in chapter 15 of Book 3 of the  Devi Bhagawatham.)

1.Rajaa puraaseeth  kila kosaleshu,
Dharma kanishto DRuva sandhi nama,
AAsthaam priye asya  manorama   cha
Leelavathi   chethi  drudanurakthe

1,Once upon a time  , in the country  of Kosala,
There was a king called  Druva sandhi who  was firm on Dharma,
He had    loving wives   called  Manorama  and Leelavathi,
Who were both   greatly   in love   with him.

2.Manoramaasootha  sudarsanaakhyam,
Kumarakam   sathru jitham  cha saanyaa,
SAmvardhasthou   mrugayaa  vihaari,
Vane  nrupo   haa harina hatho abhooth.

2,Manorama gave birth to a child called Sudarshana,
And  the other lady   gave birth yo a child called  Sathrujith,
The king who was   nurturing    those   children well,
Was killed by a lion  when he was hunting in the forest alas.

3,. Vichinthayan   rajakulasya   vrutham,
Thajyeshta puthrasya   sudarsanasya  ,
Rajabhishekaaya  gurur  vasishta-
Schakara  manthram  sachivai   sametha.

3,Guru  Vasishta thought over the  history of royal family,
And after   holding   consultation   with ministers,
Decided  to crown Sudarshana  , who was ,
The elder son   , as the  king .

4.Mathamaha   sathru jitho  Yudhaji-,
Dabhyethya sadho   amitha   veerya Sali,
Rajye  swa douhithran mihaabhishiktham,
Karthu   kubudhi  kuruthesma yathnam.

4.The  maternal grand father  of Sathru jit,
Named  Yudhajit  who   was very valorous,
But had a   crooked mimd tried  to crown,
His daughter’s son as   the king  of the country.

5.Manoramaaya   api veera sena ,
Pithaa abhyupethys  aasu  rurodha   thasya,
Yathnam   bali   swaswa suthaa suthaabhi-
Shekaika  budhi khalu  thaavabhoothaam.

5.Manorama’s father  the very strong  Veerasena,
Came running   and  broke the plans  of Yudhajith,
As both of them    were  interested  only,
In the crowning  of their grandson as  king.

6.Kruthwaa vivadham   cha  thatho   nrpou dwaou,
Ghoram   ranam   chakra thuriddha roshou,
Yudhajithaa    thathra thu veera seno,
Deivaadh   hatho abhoodh harinaa kareeva.

6,Afyer   lot of argument    those    two kings,
Became angry and fought  a  terrible battle,
In the war , due to fate  Veerasena  was killed,
By  Yudhajith   similar to a  deer being killed by elephant.

7.Rajyebhishiktha   khalu   sathru jith sa ,
Balastha thoyam  ripubhidh yudhajith,
Douhithra    rajyam   sukham ekanadha ,
Sasasa vajreeva  dhivam mahesi

7.Afterwards   the boy Sathru jith  was  crowned,
AS the king  and  that Yudhajit   who could,
Kill his enemies  became   the single leader ,
Oh Great Goddess  and ruled  over the country,
Oh his  daughter’s son , like Indra  ruling heaven.

8,Pathyu  pithuschaapi  mrutheranaadhaa,
Bhethaa vidhaLalaabhidha  manthri yuktha,
Manoramaa bala suthaa  thwaranye,
Yayaou Bharadwaja munim   saranyam.

8.Manorama   along with her   young son  having lost,
Her father  and husband became an orphan  and,
Being scared , along with a  minister  called
VidhaLLa sought  refuge in forest  ,
And reached   the hermitage of Bharadwaja.

9.THaponidhira   dheena jananukampi ,
Jnaathwaa  munisthaam   druva sandhi pathnim,
Uvacha-vathse   vasa nirbhayyaiva,
Thapovane athraasthu  shubham thavethi.

9.BHaradwaja  the  treasure of Thapaas and  having ,
Great mercy to the suffering  recognizing her    as,
The wife of  DRuvasanthi told , “Oh child, you can,
Live in this hermitage  without  any feat .Let you be auspicious.,”

10   Alpoapyupekshyo  na ripur   na rogaa-,
Pyevam  smarannasu   nrupo yudhaa jith,
Thaam harthu kaama sasuthaam   maharshe  ,
Prapa aasramam  manthrivarena saakam.

10, Thinking that  “even if the  enemy is a minor one,
He should not be disregarded”   the king Yudhajith,
With an intention  of abducting her   along with her son,
Came with great   speed to the hermitage along with the minister.

11.Na maanithasthena thapasvinaa sa,
Manoramaam   naiva sutham   cha  lebhe,
Prahartrhu kamo api   munim sa  manthri,
Vachaa nivrutha srutha kaushiko abooth.

11.He  was neither   respected   by the sage nor did ,
He get Manorama   and her son and though,
He thought of beating the sage , as per the words,
Of the minister  returned back hearing ,
About the   story of Viswamithra

12.Evam munisthaam   sasuthaa raraksha,
BHeethosmi   samsara yudhajithoham,
Na may sahayosthi   vinaa thwaishaa,
Sanopuram   they  charanam namami.

12.Thus    the sage protected   both of them,
And I am scared of the  Yudhajit called  SAmsara,
And except   your selves  I do not   have any one  to help,

And So I  am saluting your   feet decorated by golden anklet.
