Dasakam 13  Udathya Mahima (Greatness of Udathya) 

(this is the continuation of the story given in last chapter.Once udaythya(Sathyavrutha) was doing thapas ,He saw a pig running away from a hunter.The hunter arrived and aked the sage  to tell the truth. He told g him, “Those who saw do not speak and those    who   speak do not see. The confused hunter   went back, This story occurs in   chapter 11 of book 3 of Devi bhagawatha )

1.Adhaagatha   kaschidadhijyadhanvaa,
Munim nishadha  sahasaa jagaadha-,
THwam sathyavag broohi  muni thwayaa  kim,
DRushta kiti   sayaka vidhadeha.

1.Immediately  one hunter armed with bow and arrow,
Came and asked the sage” Are you not one ,
Who speaks  the truth and so tell me  ,
Did you see  a boar hurt by an arrow  here.”

2.Drushta  thwayaa  ched  vadha sookara kka,
Gatho na vaa  adrusyath kim , muneendra,
Aham nishadha khalu   vanya vruthir,
Mamaasthi   dhaaradhika poshya   varga.

2.Oh king of saints   if you have    seen the boar,
Please do tell me. Where has  it gone?
As I am hunter   I depend on forest to live,
As I have the duty   to look after   my wife   and others.

3. Sruthwaa   nishadhasya   vacho muni sa,
THooshnim   sthitha schinthayanthi    sma gaadam,
Vadhaami   kim   dushta  ithiyathi   chedh,
Hanyadhayam   tham  mama   chaapyagam   syaath.

3.The sage    who heard   the words  of the hunter  ,
Remained silent and was   drowned  in deep thought,
“What shall I do? If I tell   I have   seen , he will kill it,
And    Sin of  causing its death   would come to me.

4,.Sathyam naram   rakshathi  rakshitham che,
Dasathyavakthaa   narakam  vrujecha,
SAthyam hi sathyam sadayam   na kinchid,
SAthyam   krupaa   soonyamidham  matham may.

4,My  opinion is that , if  we protect the    truth ,
It would save  us and a liar   would go to hell .
Truth  admixed   with mercy    is truth and truth,
Without  mercy is  definitely not the    truth.

5.Yevam  mune schinthayanths swakaarya,
Vyagro   b nishaadhas  punareva  mooche,
Drushta thwayaa  kim  na kitir  na kim vaa,
Drushta sa   seegram  kadhayathra   sathyam.

5.When the sage   was thinking  like this,
The hunter  who was  interested  only in his affair,
Again told like this”Did you   see that   boar?,
Did you not see it?.Tell quickly    and tell the truth.”

6.Munisthmaahathra  puna puna  kim,
Nishaadha  maam  pruchasi   moha magna  ,
Pasyan naheth  na  cha bruvaana ,
Pasyedalam  vagmibharavehi  sathyam.

6.The sage   told the hunter, “ Oh  hunter  , now,
You seem to be drowned in desire and   you are ,
Asking me  again and again. Those   who  see ,
Would  not speak and those  who speak   do  not know.,
Reduce   your words    and   understand   the truth.

7.Unmaadhino  jalpanameths devam,
Mathwaa nishadha sahasaa  jagaamaa,
Naa sathya mukthasm   muninaa na kolo,
Hathascha  sarvam thava  devi leelaa.

7.The  hunter thinking  that it is a  lunatic prattle,
Suddenly left    from there. While sage did nor lie,
The boar also    did not die  and Oh Goddess ,
Is not all this   your playful sports.  

8.Drushtaa  param brahma   thadaiva  cha syaa-,
Dithi  sruthi  praha  na bashathe   sa,
Sadaa brovaanasthu   na  pasyadheedha  ,
Mayam hi  sathyavrutha  vaakya saaraa.

8. The Vedas  tell that   he   who sees  the Para Brahma,
Becomes  one with itself   and He then does not talk,
On the other  hand  one who always talks  cannot see,
Para Brahma and this is the  summary of words  of Sathya Vrutha


9.Bhooya  sa  saaaraswatha bheeja manthram,
Chiram japan  jnana  nidhi kavischa,
Valmikivath   swardisi   prasidho,
Babhoova   bandhoon   samatharpyascha,

9.Then later  Utadhya   chanted   the root chant ,
Of Goddess Saraswathi  for a   very long time,
And became  famous as a  wise man  and poet,
Like  Valmiki and  made his relatives happy.

10.Smruthaa nathaa devi   supoojithaa  vaa,
Sruthaa  nuthaa  vaa  khaku  vandithaa  vaa,
Dadhaasi   nithyam   hitam aasrithebhya,
Krupadrichithe   sathatham namasthe  .

10. Oh Goddess   you do only   good to all those ,
Who think about you  ,  Who worship you.
Who hear  and pray to you, Who salute   you,
And who surrender to you. Oh Goddess 

 With  great mercy, I salute you  always.
